Products featuring Doctor Doom and branding from the upcoming Marvel Studios film Avengers: Doomsday are now available for purchase at the Marvel Alterniverse shop in Universal's Islands of Adventure. The appearance of this merchandise highlights the ongoing influence of a 1994 licensing agreement.
This contract, established before Disney acquired Marvel Entertainment in 2009, granted Universal theme park rights for specific Marvel characters east of the Mississippi River. The agreement includes provisions for annual license fees and royalties regarding character-themed merchandise sold within the park.
While Disney owns the Marvel franchise, this historical arrangement allows Universal Orlando to continue featuring these characters and related retail items within its Florida theme park properties.
